I chose to do my project on World War II's effect on the U.S. because it really caught my attention before and I knew there were plenty of resources. It seemed like I could easily find the answer to any question I had about it without much effort at all. I also chose this as my topic because I was fascinated by how our country has changed since then. For example, before
WWII, it never said anywhere that a president could only be elected for two
terms. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, however, was president during the great
depression (he got elected over Herbert Hoover in 1936) and served FOUR terms
in office. The people kept voting him back into office because of the war- they
wanted to have the same leader through it all and not change anything suddenly
in the middle of the war. After the war ended, a law was passed prohibiting any
president from serving more than two terms. That was a HUGE political advancement because we still use that law today. If it hadn't been for the war, we might not have given much thought to that as a law.
I am glad I chose to write about post world war II, and I believe I did fairly well on this project. ^_^
